When you are considering staking a claim on your own section of the internet there are literally hundreds of important decisions to be made. These decisions will take you in one direction or another. You may find yourself stuck with some of these choices for the life of the blog.

They could limit your growth, or if they are able to be changed, it may be expensive or cost you some momentum of your business growth. So now is the time to answer some of these Pre-launch questions.

  • What is the purpose of your blog? Will it be a hobby, or side hustle or are you hoping for a full-time income?
  • Choose Your Blog Topic – Are you going to refine the topic into a niche?
  • Who is the blog aimed at?
  • What pain point are you solving?
  • What will be the income sources for your blog (even if it’s just so your hobby covers costs)
  • What is your elevator pitch. A short but interesting paragraph that you could tell an acquaintance in passing if they asked what you were doing. example: “I have a business called Functional Food that is aimed at helping mums of young children get back their energy and shape after the challenges of birth and the toddler years”
  • What topics will you cover (menu headers)
  • Who is your competition, what makes them popular & how do you differ?
  • Branding – This is a big topic but we start simple with colours and fonts in Canva

Do I need to Finish the Pre-launch Checklist?

There is no need to have all your i’s dotted and t’s crossed. These dot points are just items to consider before you start your blog. The clearer you are on each of these questions, the easier it will be to do the upcoming steps. Things like writing the “tagline” for your blog. Choosing an appropriate name for your website. Or write a bio for social media.
